Last night I was driving home and I called a friend, who shared with me that she had just gotten laid off. AND their heat pump is on the blink. They are using the emergency heat but that runs your electric bill up.
What do you do? What can you say? I asked if they would be ok, because I know if I lost my job, we would not be ok. She said if they were very, very careful. Those are dangerous words to me, because it is hard to be very, very careful!
Then the other thing swirling in my head is food. Our church has been reaching out to people who are going hungry. I have never heard so many stories of people hurting that if I wanted to I could drive over and visit with in 10 minutes!
Lastly, I am hearing mom's who are devastated that they may have to disappoint their kids for the first time ever this Christmas. Some of them, are just a little scared by it too. It's just something they never expected to happen!
Can I have another lastly? I had a grown man in the office last week on the verge of tears because his credit cards are full and he won't get paid for another two weeks.
I know alot of church's are helping people and families are helping each other, but never in my life would I have said something like this would happen to so many people. And its not over yet! I know that we have to look to Jesus for help, comfort and guidance but this will be the first time in my life that the need to pray about our daily life is so necessary.
Does that make sense? I have always prayed for things, but not so much the day to day things because they just were. The other thing I had better get my hands around is contentment verses worldliness. They are in sharp contrast right now! In the past I would have said I was content, but maybe it was because for the most part my life has been bumpy but not rocky!
What about you all, what are you seeing in your neck of the woods?
As a side note, we are getting 3 or 4 eggs a day, brown eggs and one green egg a day! Did you know chickens lay green eggs? I had no idea, I haven't been able to eat it yet, but Chad and Lauren say they are the same tasting.

Lessons come at a high price...and sometimes the ones tht get hit really didn't seem to deserve it. I have been mulling over the stor in the Bible about Jesus healing the blind man and the crowd wanting to know whose fault it was that he was so stricken. Jesus' answer is not what they expected...so the glory of God could be revealed.
I'm not sure why things are the way they are right now, but I do know that God works on a whole 'nother level. And we could all use a little "glory revealed"!
BTW, Jim will have a mandatory pay reduction of 20% at years end, with possibly more to come.
And yes Jenny, God makes eggs in all colors! They are beautiful...take joy and wonder in these things for the wolf is at the door.
Things are very bumpy here too. It is an unsettling time right now. Every day we hear of more and more people that "we know" who are losing their jobs. We just make ends meet as it is, so it is very scary to hear of the lay offs. In the mean time, I am just trying each day to be more and more careful with our budget. It is definitely a process. Baby steps, baby steps.
We used to have chickens, and I never saw a green egg. That is a new one for me. Ours were all brown. But the brown ones tastes like the white, so it makes since that the green would taste like the brown.;)
God Bless,
Amy:)
I believe from what I am hearing times are bad everywhere. I keep thinking about the Hallmark movie about the homeless lady..that came on around Thanksgiving. That could be us at anytime. We are making our bills but, there are days that I wonder how long we can last. I know that God is faithful and will see us through. We may loose material things ...we will never loose HIM. We must lift each other up in prayer and keep pressing on!
I have never seen a green egg ...except at Easter. LOL
I would probably have a hard time eating it too.
Sweet Blessings,
Darlene
Hey Jenny, I did not know that eggs could come out green! Very interesting!
But, I do know that one of God's promises to His people is the promise of provision. I believe that now is a great time for all of God's children to stand in His truth and His promises so that the rest of the world will see that there is a distinction. We need to continue to trust God and believe that He is our answer in everything.
Daily we must renew our minds to the truth and use our imaginations to glorify God (I just posted about this.)

It's scary over here in Australia too.
As a small farming community we are seeing people leave their farms and this district in more numbers than I have ever seen. We have just been through our 6th year of drought.
We are ok. I work full time, but nothing is completely certain. If I were to lose my job we couldn't live off the farm's income, it just doesn't bear thinking about.
On the flip side, we need to keep reminding ourselves that the Lord will always provide for us. He is able.
Hi Jenn!
My mom always tells me of missionary she met who didn't like America because he felt too far away from God. He prefered to pray for his water... he felt his water faucet kept him further from God.
Take good care!!
